Hullo Pillow Reviews

The Search is Over!

I have a closet full of pillows that I’ve purchased with the hopes that they would be perfect.  I always ended up going back to my old pillow in short order – because I just couldn’t adjust to any of the new ones I bought.  I heard about the Hullo pillow and thought I’d give it a try.  The first night, the pillow didn’t make it all night (thinking to myself that it was going to end up in the closet with the other ones).  I gave it a second try – and – it worked!  I haven’t gone back – and – now worry what it’ll be like when I’m traveling (for work) and need to use a “regular” pillow again.

I sleep on my side/belly and always have an arm underneath the pillow.  With regular pillows, the arm would often go numb.  The Hullo pillow forms right around the arm and still keeps its shape on the top.  Love it!

Worth It.

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to using the Hullo Buckwheat pillow. I bought the half-sized one. After two herniated discs in my life, sleeping improperly can be downright dangerous! While it took me some time to get used to sleeping on the pillow, I haven’t woken up with a sore neck since I started using it! I wish I had splurged on the full sized pillow though. Not a natural back-sleeper, when I sleep on my back I like to have my arms over my head, and this pillow is too small to allow that. For side sleeping though, it is wonderful! I’m extremely possessive of it, and I’ll definitely be taking it camping with me this summer!

The Best Pillow I’ve Ever Had

It’s amazing most pillows either fall off the bed or deflate over time but Hullo makes it enjoyable to sleep again. I personally punch the contents of the pillow when I feel anxious or need noise to fall asleep. I love every thing about this pillow.

Just OK

It is very heavy. It is in a ball every morning. Did not send it back but probably will not recommend to others.

Perfect for Neck Pain

After taking a few of the pellets out, this pillow is PERFECT!  Yes, can be a little noisy when re-adjusting while sleeping, however, the noise is worth it!  Thank you Hullo!

I Love This Pillow

I can not get enough of this pillow! I was interested in getting one after going through a few days of a bad neck cramp (caused by sleeping poorly on a standard pillow.) I instantly fell in love with my Hullo. This pillow is supportive and doesn’t smoosh down over time. It’s even comfy when I am sleeping on my side.

I have already recommended this pillow to two other people who have bought them, and I won’t stop raving about them. Thank you for giving me a great solution to my very cranky neck 🙂

Love My Pillows

I ordered the standard rectangular and the neck roll. Both of them perform as expected. The canvas covers are durable and there is ample hulls stuffed inside so you can take some out to set aside for later if you need to.

Took a While to Feel Normal

I did not fall in love with my Hullo on day 1, but I really do like it now. I had to remove at least half of the buckwheat hulls that it came with, it was much too full for my needs as a back sleeper (I prefer a relatively thin pillow). I like that it’s very adjustable – I prefer support right under my neck and most pillows don’t provide any so my head falls forward. Hullo is great because you can squish it/shape it just right and then it’s set. My only complaint is that re-adjusting it in the middle of the night can be kind of loud and sometimes wakes up my partner. The sound is similar to shifting around sand in a bag but a bit louder – it’s not unpleasant sounding, just louder than I expected.

Finally!

I have tried so many pillows and I FINALLY found a GREAT one!  I searched for a pillow that would not “sink” when I slept, I tried so many and honestly I was about to give up.  I found Hullo by searching for “firm pillows”, read the description and took a chance.  So glad I did because this pillow is a dream!

Best Pillow I Have Ever Owned for My Creaky Neck

Out of desperation and after trying all these other kinds of so called neck pillows I ordered the Hullo pillow. I considered the cheaper buckwheat pillows but some reviews talked about “smells” and “bugs” and hey, I sure didn’t need that just to save a few bucks. Well, I sure made the right decision. I threw away the other neck pillows and I will never use anything but the Hullo pillow. It molds right to what I need, my neck doesn’t complain and yes, it smells just fine. It was delivered quickly and carefully packed. I have arthritis in my neck so this was exactly what I need. Always a Hullo for me.

I Can Finally Sleep Again

This pillow is amazing. After having kids and now carrying toddlers around all day, my back and neck feel so stiff and sore. I suspect I have arthritis in my upper spine and neck and it causes me so much pain. I used to use the Hullo and I loved it. We recently moved, and my Hullo pillow got packed and misplaced in the move. Since then my pain has been getting increasingly worse, to the point that I have insomnia oftentimes in the middle of the night and it is difficult to fall into a deep sleep. After finding and using this pillow again I can finally fall into a deep sleep and stay asleep. It is so supportive. I recommend bunching the Hullos into a supportive shape under your neck prior to falling asleep. This pillow is a life changer. I highly recommend! Also, I love that it is made in the US, organic and free of any of the toxic materials that are in most bedding.

Super Comfortable!

Love the firmness of this pillow, and the fact that I can have it take on any shape I wish based on how I want to sleep (side, back, etc).

Love the extra hulls they give you bc allows perfect customization of volume.

Closet Full of Unloved Pillows

I have consistently used one  (foam with neck support) pillow since 1995.  The maker of my old pillow is out of business now.  I can not even count all the pillows I have tried until Hullo!

I have the king size Hullo pillow and after a few nights, finally threw out my pillow of 25 years with confidence that I had finally found the perfect fit.   I have had this pillow for three months and love it.

The pillow is heavier than I expected but does not slide around on my bed.   I am a side sleeper and the hulls  allow me to flip from side to side without loss of support.   I sometimes sleep with my arm under my pillow and have no alteration in comfort.  The hulls allow you to customize the height of the pillow under your neck.   They do produce a slight noise but I don’t even notice it anymore.

I wake up less during the night and have had significantly less neck pain.   It is also cooler than others that I have tried.

Thank you Hullo from one very grateful Registered Nurse.

Hello Hullo, Goodbye Neck Pain!

I have had my pillow for about a month now and I am amazed at how much better I feel. My neck pain has reduced drastically since purchasing and my quality of sleep has vastly improved. I have spend hundreds of dollars on pillows and this is really the first one that I have enjoyed owning and have been compelled to review. This is not a plush pillow, this is a support device that helps you achieve a sound night’s sleep. The quality of the Hullo pillow is exceptional. I highly recommend.

Helpful for Relief

This is by far the best pillow I’ve ever had. I work on a computer for extended periods of time and it has done a number on my body (migraines, neck pain, etc) and my past pillows were adding to the pain. This pillow along with healthier habits (stretching, blue light blocking glasses, and acupuncture) have dramatically reduced my migraines and neck pain. Get the pillow *and* don’t stop there.

Keeps Its Support

Great pillow, very high quality materials throughout. If you need head support without your pillow going flat after a few months this is the pillow for you.

I’m a side sleeper and kept having side neck and shoulder pain so I switched to the Hullo. Definitely better support and has improved my posture while I sleep by preventing my head from craning downward into my shoulder.

Should’ve bought the larger size but I couldn’t justify it for a pillow at the time, which is ironic because of how much we sleep. Will buy the larger size when I can afford to, the smallest size works just fine and will use when traveling.

Good Thickness, Doesn’t Go Flat When You Sleep on It

If you move around a lot in bed, constantly switching sides, then this pillow will tend to get harder. If you lay still for the most part, you shouldn’t have any trouble, but as someone who tosses and turns, the pillow is usually somewhat hard and flat by the time I wake up. That being said, it’s still my favorite pillow.

You’re not paying for cotton, feathers, or foam. You’re paying for a surprisingly comfortable bean bag designed with the head in mind. This is a premium pillow at a less-than-premium price.

So, what are buckwheat hulls? I don’t know, but they are so light in weight, that if you hold some in your hand and blow on them slightly, they will fly out of your hand. The closest thing I can compare them to is the thin, brown, plasticky material you pull out of your teeth after eating popcorn. The pillow, however, is pretty heavy, considering I just ordered the small one. That’s probably because of the shear quantity of material inside. The fabric that houses the hulls is very nice-feeling and relatively thick, too, and the zipper is very robust, so you shouldn’t have to worry about the hulls spilling out.

You can’t really prop up the Hullo to become a headrest to watch TV or use your phone in bed with the small pillow because it likes to abide by the laws of gravity. If you place it upright, it becomes a burrito shape, but if you keep it flat, it stays a pillow shape. I use a different pillow for sitting up. Bottom line: it’s a really good pillow, and a unique one at that. If you don’t like it, you can return it before 60 days.

I used a promo code for free shipping to order the small Hullo pillow. The medium is probably much better, but since the pillow retains its thickness throughout the night, there’s no need for me to upgrade, personally. The main reason why most people think they need a BIG pillow is because they want a thick pillow. As a wise man once said, it’s about the girth, not the length.

The Pillow Case Makes It the Best out There by Far

I’ve used millet pillows for years, but after awhile they start to flatten. The same thing will happen with Buckwheat as well. The main difference is the container that will hold the material. Weak zippers and no way to protect the zipper has been the main failure (for me). The zipper is robust on this and takes intention to get it to move. This is what is making me right now a believer in this company.

Arthritic Neck and Spine Find Relief via the Hullo Buckwheat Pillow

I wasn’t sure I’d like a buckwheat pillow because of the hardness of the hulls. I couldn’t wrap my head around finding comfort lying on top of buckwheat hulls. I’m so, so happy I decided to try a Hullo pillow out. I have arthritis in my neck and it causes such pain and discomfort. I’d wake up with headaches and went through so, so, so many pillows and money thrown at them that I was in despair. I’m grateful this pillow actually does what it offers to do. I wake up now with no neck pain most days. I’m just so grateful and so happy–so much so, that I bought one for my husband, too, and now he doesn’t rub his neck in the mornings like he used to. I’ll probably get more hulls for mine since it needs more loft.

Neck Support and Less Snoring

My old pillow was molded with a neck rest. I hadn’t replaced it in years and the neck rest was starting to flatten. In the mornings, my neck ached, so I knew it was time for a new pillow. Around this time, I also started snoring and snorting myself awake because I wasn’t getting enough air. I remembered a pillow from a Japanese ryokan that had felt hard the first night, but I ended up loving after our stay. I failed to find that pillow, but came across Hullo. Wow! I’ve been using it for 3 months. My neck doesn’t hurt in the mornings and my snoring has lessened.

Based on the reviews, I got the smaller pillow. As recommended, I took some of the filling out over subsequent nights until I found the right comfort level for me. It is noisy if you toss and turn a lot, but I’ve found that once it’s in the crater shape I want (lots of hulls in a U shape under the neck), it cradles my head and I don’t move much during the night. I ended up emptying about half the hulls and am not sure what to do with the excess. The pillow material is durable and the tuck away zipper made it easy to adjust the filling while still being secure when closed.

Great Pillow

My Hullo pillow was recommended to me by a physical therapist that I’d been seeing for neck issues.  While I still have some ongoing issues with my neck, my pillow has helped a lot.  I like to sleep on my side, so find it very comfortable and the fit is right.  I did have to take some of the hulls out as it was too full, but that’s simple to do and it made it a much better size/fit for me.  Great pillow, but you should know, that it’s heavy!  The material is well made and appears to be of a very high quality.  I definitely recommend it.

Best So Far

This pillow is pretty much exactly as I expected it to be. It did not take long to get used to it, and after a few days I started taking hulls out, 2 cups at a time, to find what worked for me. This pillow provides good support. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is, I would like to have a little padding around the hulls. I think a pillow with hulls for the core and then a little padding around that would be ideal. I need support for my neck and back but also like a little cush around my head. Other than that, it’s exactly what I wanted.

Excellent Head Support

I’m an extreme slide-sleeper. I only sleep on my back by accident. Hullo took 2-3 weeks to get used to – mainly it was a bit hard on my ear at the beginning but after a few weeks, no more. Clearly the human body is pretty adaptive (although I can’t train myself to sleep on my back). Hullo clearly supports my neck and my head, and is stable enough to keep my shoulder from digging in to the mattress & neck and cause day-long pain. Without Hullo, my shoulder would ALWAYS end up hurting by the morning as it took the brunt of my head’s weight and more. I figure this is because most pillows compress into hard as a rock over night – Buckwheat does not.

The trick is to have a thin bit of Hullo rest between my head and my shoulder, and bam, the pressure is off my shoulder and I feel no pain by the end of the night. My head doesn’t slowly sink. It stays where it needs to. Some buckwheat hulls may migrate elsewhere, but a quick “fluff” puts them back. As a side sleeper, it could use a bit more hulls than what is shipped by default but usually it’s enough. I tried to remove some hulls and that did not work for me. Guess I’m a hard core side sleeper. Anyway, this is so far the best pillow I’ve used and I’ve been through far too many.

This seems like it may be the last type of pillow to try; I’m very happy with it and it’s typically quite comfortable. Off-nights are to be expected, but more often than not, Hullo keeps my neck and shoulder from hurting! Yay!

Finally I Can Sleep

This deserves more than five stars!

I tried almost all top reviewed pillows: memory foam, silicone mesh and even feather pillows! Finally I can sleep deeply and wake up with no headache nor neck pain. My roommate had the same issue until I referred him to Hullo!

I highly recommend this pillow and I really appreciate the professional customer service.
