It Was Worth a Try
I have had neck pain for years. A physical therapist suggested that I try a buckwheat pillow. So I ordered the Hullo small and have used it for months now to thoroughly give it a try. Unfortunately, my neck pain increased and I began having headaches which I am certain was associated with the pillow use. Removing some of the fill didn’t help. I stopped using the pillow and though my chronic neck issues are still present the increased neck pain and headaches are gone.

LOVE My Hullo!
I LOVE my Hullo (14 x 20). I’ve had buckwheat and millet pillows in the past, but the hulls weren’t as fresh as these are, which actually makes a big difference. If you haven’t used a buckwheat pillow before, they are somewhat firm. They are also adjustable in two ways – the first way you can adjust these pillows is by adding or subtract hulls so that your head is cradled just right. The amount I took out seems minimal, but it made a huge difference for me. I played around with it quite a bit before settling on the right amount, and I kept the extra hulls around in case I need them later.
The second way the Hullo is adjustable is that you can move the hulls around so they best cradle your head each time you move.
There is a rustling noise as you adjust the pillow and the buckwheat settles into place. It might bother some people, but I find it very relaxing.

I Own 6 Hullo Pillows
I own two at my home, one at my in-laws for when I visit, a travel pillow and a couple at my parent’s house. Needless to say, I literally can’t sleep without one.

Heavy But Comfortable
It is a heavy pillow but comfortable. It’s cool feeling and the hulls shape to the contour of your neck and head. I’m a stomach sleeper and I’m real comfortable with the pillow. I have tried many other pillows but I like the Hullo the best.

Fits Perfectly Around My Neck!
I got the small size, which is perfect for this type of pillow. Typically I don’t like a big, firm pillow, just a bit to keep my neck straight. The buckwheat is firm, but it can be molded around your neck and head the way you like. I had to play around with the amount of buckwheat filling, trying less, then more, then less, etc. I seem to like it somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 full. By that, I mean if I hold the pillow by the zipper end, the buckwheat flows to the bottom of the pillow a bit below the halfway mark and the top portion is empty. Too full, and the buckwheat flows less easily and it starts to feel too hard. So if you think it’s too hard, remove some of the filling and see how that feels. On the downside, it looks rather deflated on the bed, lol!
Usually I pull the pillow to mostly go under my neck. If that’s not perfect, then I push my head in a little. Sometimes I’ll just take my fist and punch a little hole for the back of my head. It’s like sand in that way, will stay the way you form it. When I change position, it usually adjusts with my movement. If not, I either use my hand to reform the shape or I give my head a tiny turn or two to dig in.
Have not gone back to a regular pillow for sleeping, but having fluffy ones for looks might be a good idea if that is important to you. If you get the small size, I suggest you look for a video online to show how to put it in a regular pillowcase so it fits perfectly and looks really nice (and less deflated!). I put mine in sideways which works well.

The Perfect Pillow
I love, love, love my Hullo pillow that I have been sleeping on for two months. My cranial bones located in my occipital area have been tender for many years. This pillow cradles my head perfectly. One might think that the hard buckwheat hulls would be uncomfortable however it’s quite the opposite. At first the pillows seemed a bit full for my liking but, the pillow has a nice zipper and I was able to remove 4 cups of hulls and that seemed to work well for me. I highly recommend this pillow and if you are unsure because of the cost it is completely worth it and comes with a money back guarantee. I also love that it is a Minnesota company, made an America:) Thank you Hullo.

Just Wow… but Give It Time!
After a week I was ready to send this pillow back, my neck felt stiff and sore-ish, (not bad, but not awesome) but I REALLY liked that it doesn’t sleep hot!! So I decided I’d give it another week or two and I’m glad I did! I think my body, neck & spine needed time re-adjust to being PROPERLY aligned while I slept. It really does support my head a neck perfectly and keeps it shape and doesn’t smooshe down or lose its shape!! At all! No need to fold and stuff pillows under your head or shoulders when you are a side sleeper!! It also has a nice, earthy scent. Weird, I know! The only negative I have with this pillow is that it’s heavy, which is unavoidable based on materials used! It’s not a big deal, but I can’t hold it under my chin when I put a clean pillowcase on!! Ha ha!

I Recommend
I snore. It’s really annoying for everyone (except me, I’m asleep). Tried the Hullo pillow and sure enough, it really helped. It’s firm and helps keep my head lifted up enough where my breathing isn’t compromised. This is true for when I sleep on my side. This may not work as well for you if you sleep on your back. The problem now is if I travel anywhere, I really miss it!

The BEST, Jerry, the BEST
I have been on an epic quest for years in search of the perfect pillow and I finally found it with Hullo. It’s supportive! It’s flexible! My nose doesn’t sink in and smother me in my sleep! Putting a pillowcase on it is similar to trying to wrestle an alligator, but it’s totally worth it. Currently recommending it to everyone and am so excited I finally found my pillow soulmate.

Years-Long Hullo User
I could sell these all day long. It’s like a mold around your head and neck. Sometimes if I get up in the night I might push on the hulls a bit and they just fill in the “neck gaps”, again, like a mold. Yes, the pillow is heavy’ish and it has some sound to it, but it’s the best pillow I’ve ever had. I’ve been using one for years and feel the same way. Just recently bought the smaller travel pillows (my partner feels the same way) so that’s why I got a review request. People who complain that it’s hard as a rock need to take out of the hulls. They are malleable so they naturally push down in, but you may have to take some out. I guess it’s not for everyone, but if you end up loving like we do you’ll be so glad you bought it.

Sleep On It
The Hullo pillow is comfortable and provides better support than the synthetic filling pillows I’ve used in the past. I have’t used it through the summer yet, but it seems to stay cool without having to turn it over constantly. It’s definitely noisier than other pillows but that hasn’t been an issue now that I’ve gotten used to it. The only downside I’ve found is that since it’s essentially a sack of buckwheat hulls it can’t be neatly propped up against a headboard and it can look lumpy if you don’t flatten it out. Those are entirely aesthetic issues though and only matter if you’re particular about making your bed.

Hard as a Rock!
An acquaintance recommended this pillow for my shoulder pain, but my goodness – it is hard as a rock. And loud. I hate it. But failed to read the return policy and fear it would cost too much to return ship, since it would be akin to shipping a cinder block. Expensive lesson.

Love It!
I had neck pain with my original pillow and at times I would get headaches. I order Buckwheat Pillow a few days after Christmas and for the last 4 months I had no check pain or headaches. I does take a few days to get the pillow just the way to want it but it worth it.

Love My Pillow
I’d never been happy with a pillow before discovering this. They were all too soft and too bouncy. The buckwheat hull pillow is just right. It’s supportive but malleable, and I like the rustling, crunchy sound.
Thanks, Hullo!

At Last, A Quality Pillow
The buckwheat hulls are supportive without cutting off blood flow, and do a good job of circulating air as well. The pillow casing did not set off my chemical sensitivities, and is well constructed with a zipper meant for years of use including refills. I’m so glad I invested in this pillow. It’s a major life upgrade!

Impressed with My Pillow
I am enjoying my pillow. It is a bit firmer than I am used to but I definitely do not toss and turn as much with my new pillow. It sleeps much cooler than a foam pillow even those that claim they have some kind of cooling fabric. It also has no odor. I bought a new pillow from a chain store that had to breathe for 24 hours before using— that can’t be good.

Love It
This small pillow is perfect for me. I sleep on my side and on my back and this pillow provides the right amount of support for constant switching. I also like the noise the buckwheat pillow makes when moved. Wish I got it a long time ago.

1st thought…buckwheat pillow?…SOUNDS WEIRD…after 1st night…OMG I LOVE THIS THING!
OK let me start by saying I’ve never even considered a buckwheat pillow before. I’ve either used foam or feather pillows in the past. But there is a point after so many nights of wrestling with your pillow you get desperate and are willing to try anything.
COST:
I would not call the buckwheat pillows from “hullo” cheap and I’m sure you can find bargain pillows online. That being said my personal option is if I’m trying something different I want to try the best and get the clearest idea if it’s right for me.
QUALITY:
The quality of material from “hullo” is wonderful. I don’t have any other buckwheat pillows to compare but I would say without question I’m totally satisfied with what they sell and can’t think of anything else I would want or expect.
FIRST NIGHT:
From my research on buckwheat pillows I had expected it to be a bit loud. This is small hulls right next to your ear after all. But I have to say it really isn’t that loud and one thing to remember is it only makes noice when your moving around on your pillow not when your resting still. That leads me to my biggest revelation with this pillow. After only a few minutes I realized…with a buckwheat pillow you literally are able to “sculpt” a custom pillow for your head every time you use it. With a buckwheat pillow every time you move you get a whole new pillow custom to you.
After the first night my wife said my snoring was almost zero. Everyone’s experience is obviously different but lets just say I was impressed…VERY impressed after the first night.
COMPLAINTS:
We don’t live in a perfect world and most things in life can be improved on. In the case of the Standard 20″ × 26″ Bed Pillow I purchased from “hullo” I would say only one thing stands out as needing improvement. The amount of buckwheat they provide in their pillows. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like they rip you off or anything on the fill amount. And yes, every customer is likely to have a slightly different amount of “ideal” fill. All I’m saying is I wish they would provide you MAX filled pillows and explain to the user that you will likely need to remove some to reach your ideal fill. This would save your customers the extra $50 cost required for extra buckwheat filling. Then again it’s a business and profit is required.
Just saying….hullo…if your reading this…and let’s be honest it’s a review on your own site…your reading it…please just consider erring on the side of caution and put more filling in your pillows:)
LAST WORDS:
Did I spend $150 (including my purchase of extra fill) on one pillow? Yes I did…and I would do it again in a second! I love my hullo pillow…enough to even write a lengthy review praising it.

We Both Love Our Pillows
From the first night, my husband and I found the pillows very comfortable. We bought the smaller size as the regular was out of stock. Lucky for us! We love these. I use a silk pillowcase and I don’t need to worry about it fitting on my pillow as I did with my previous pillow, which was large, heavy, and organic cotton. My husband used a curved memory foam pillow. Each was more expensive than a Hullo. So–best pillows, less money, happier sleepers. FYI, we are both 81 years old, so seniors should consider Hullo!

Migraines & Hot Flashes
I’ve desperately been looking for a pillow that will help me stay cool at night as I go through the life stages of menopause. I’ve purchased very high end pillow cases and pillows claiming to help you stay cool, to no avail. I found this pillow on Amazon, read the reviews and thought well I’ve come this far why not try something different. I’ve slept on it for a few nights, figured out how to get the right “squish” and it’s FANTASTIC! No sweaty head and wet hair! Say HELLO to HULLO! It’s worth every penny! I suffer from migraines as well and hope that this will be a game changer god forbid I have another migraine attack.

Pleasant Experience
I have tried several pillows over the last few years – all with mixed results. My head and neck get quite warm when sleeping and regular pillows trap heat exceptionally well, unfortunately. I’ve tried cooling pillows, but those only work so long. Heard about Hullo pillow on a podcast for several weeks in a row, so did a little investigating and eventually bought the small one – hoping to keep from having to share with my cats (they just ended up either pushing my head off most of the pillow or sleeping on my face). It seems unsubstantial until you put force on it, then it becomes quite firm, which I rather liked. Molds very easily to shape of your head or face. Does get a little bit warm and retains some heat, but not enough to make it necessary to flip the pillow halfway through the night. It is rather comfortable to sleep on, though on occasion I do wake up with neck pain, so I’m debating taking some of the hulls out to see if that eliminates that as the pillow can feel a little raised.
My husband “borrowed” my pillow for a nap the other day and now is threatening to steal mine or buy his own.

Gave It a Good Try
I’ve given up on the Hullo pillow for a number of reasons. 1. If I was having a restless night the sound became annoying. 2. I subtracted hulls and added hulls but never achieved lasting comfort. 3. Where do I find pillow cases to fit? Unfortunately, I passed the return window of 60days, so I may turn into several small bags to heat for sore muscles.

Too Noisy
I wish my husband liked it but he said it was too noisy for him, every time he shifted it was a bunch of crunching in his ear.
