108 Reviews Mentioning: support

“Support” is one of the most commonly-used terms when customers review their Hullo pillows. Hulo’s firm, yet adjustable shape allows you to position your head and neck and it will stay there throughout the night as you sleep. Below are reviews that describe the support provided by Hullo.

Finally a Pillow That Holds Up My Head!

It’s oddly comfortable. I added some hulls that Hullo sent to make it a little thicker. It’s the best thing that’s happened to my neck in a while.

Just Wow… but Give It Time!

After a week I was ready to send this pillow back, my neck felt stiff and sore-ish, (not bad, but not awesome) but I REALLY liked that it doesn’t sleep hot!! So I decided I’d give it another week or two and I’m glad I did! I think my body, neck & spine needed time re-adjust to being PROPERLY aligned while I slept. It really does support my head a neck perfectly and keeps it shape and doesn’t smooshe down or lose its shape!! At all!  No need to fold and stuff pillows under your head or shoulders when you are a side sleeper!!  It also has a nice, earthy scent. Weird, I know!  The only negative I have with this pillow is that it’s heavy, which is unavoidable based on materials used!  It’s not a big deal, but I can’t hold it under my chin when I put a clean pillowcase on!!  Ha ha!

The BEST, Jerry, the BEST

I have been on an epic quest for years in search of the perfect pillow and I finally found it with Hullo. It’s supportive! It’s flexible! My nose doesn’t sink in and smother me in my sleep! Putting a pillowcase on it is similar to trying to wrestle an alligator, but it’s totally worth it. Currently recommending it to everyone and am so excited I finally found my pillow soulmate.

Sleep On It

The Hullo pillow is comfortable and provides better support than the synthetic filling pillows I’ve used in the past. I have’t used it through the summer yet, but it seems to stay cool without having to turn it over constantly. It’s definitely noisier than other pillows but that hasn’t been an issue now that I’ve gotten used to it. The only downside I’ve found is that since it’s essentially a sack of buckwheat hulls it can’t be neatly propped up against a headboard and it can look lumpy if you don’t flatten it out. Those are entirely aesthetic issues though and only matter if you’re particular about making your bed.

Love My Pillow

I’d never been happy with a pillow before discovering this. They were all too soft and too bouncy. The buckwheat hull pillow is just right. It’s supportive but malleable, and I like the rustling, crunchy sound.

Thanks, Hullo!

Love It

This small pillow is perfect for me. I sleep on my side and on my back and this pillow provides the right amount of support for constant switching. I also like the noise the buckwheat pillow makes when moved. Wish I got it a long time ago.

1st thought…buckwheat pillow?…SOUNDS WEIRD…after 1st night…OMG I LOVE THIS THING!

OK let me start by saying I’ve never even considered a buckwheat pillow before.  I’ve either used foam or feather pillows in the past. But there is a point after so many nights of wrestling with your pillow you get desperate and are willing to try anything.

COST:
I would not call the buckwheat pillows from “hullo” cheap and I’m sure you can find bargain pillows online.  That being said my personal option is if I’m trying something different I want to try the best and get the clearest idea if it’s right for me.

QUALITY:
The quality of material from “hullo” is wonderful.  I don’t have any other buckwheat pillows to compare but I would say without question I’m totally satisfied with what they sell and can’t think of anything else I would want or expect.

FIRST NIGHT:
From my research on buckwheat pillows I had expected it to be a bit loud.  This is small hulls right next to your ear after all. But I have to say it really isn’t that loud and one thing to remember is it only makes noice when your moving around on your pillow not when your resting still.  That leads me to my biggest revelation with this pillow. After only a few minutes I realized…with a buckwheat pillow you literally are able to “sculpt” a custom pillow for your head every time you use it. With a buckwheat pillow every time you move you get a whole new pillow custom to you.

After the first night my wife said my snoring was almost zero. Everyone’s experience is obviously different but lets just say I was impressed…VERY impressed after the first night.

COMPLAINTS:
We don’t live in a perfect world and most things in life can be improved on.  In the case of the Standard 20″ × 26″ Bed Pillow I purchased from “hullo” I would say only one thing stands out as needing improvement.  The amount of buckwheat they provide in their pillows.  Don’t get me wrong it’s not like they rip you off or anything on the fill amount.  And yes, every customer is likely to have a slightly different amount of “ideal” fill.  All I’m saying is I wish they would provide you MAX filled pillows and explain to the user that you will likely need to remove some to reach your ideal fill. This would save your customers the extra $50 cost required for extra buckwheat filling.  Then again it’s a business and profit is required.

Just saying….hullo…if your reading this…and let’s be honest it’s a review on your own site…your reading it…please just consider erring on the side of caution and put more filling in your pillows:)

LAST WORDS:
Did I spend $150 (including my purchase of extra fill) on one pillow?  Yes I did…and I would do it again in a second!  I love my hullo pillow…enough to even write a lengthy review praising it.

Greatest Pillow

Greatest comfort sleep pillow I have ever owned or used! A bit on the heavy side (not a discouraging comment). I have sleep issues, sleep on my side, and the position of my head and neck need full support. This pillow provides that and allows more sound restful sleep. I enjoy this pillow. Thank You

I have used a buckwheat pillow for over 20 years! I was glad to find your site as my pillow had lost a lot of its fullness over time! hard to go back to any other kind of pillow! This pillow gives me the support where I need it!

Thank You Hullo

I love my Hullo pillow. It was a rather expensive but well purchased pillow, worth its weight in gold.   I have been having severe neck and shoulder pain.  It was so bad that I was actually screaming.  My neck is degenerative, and I had a huge knot across my shoulders. My doctor ended up putting me on muscle relaxers. I knew I needed more neck support for when I slept.  I have looked at so many different pillows online trying to figure out the one that I thought would suit my needs. I have several friends that have tried buckwheat pillows but did not care for them. What my friends didn’t tell me or couldn’t tell me which which buckwheat pillow they tried. One of my friends claimed about how noisy it was. After reading all the reviews and taking weeks and maybe a number of months, I decided to break down and get the Hullo pillow It was the best pillow purchase I have ever made. The first thing I did when I got it, was listen for the noise that my friends had complained about. This pillow had minimal noise. There’s no smell or odor. The casement for the buckwheat is superb. When I got my buckwheat pillow i opened it up because I wanted to actually feel buckwheat. It really surprised me because it is so soft. When I finally laid down on it it was like instant relief and support for my neck. The first night I slept on it my body did not move at all. Between my Hullo pillow and my weighted blanket, I have the best sleep experience. I also have Tourette’s syndrome, so this has been the a huge help. TS has caused much of my neck problems.  Thank you Hullo for helping me.

Won’t Sleep Without My Hullo!

From the night I received my Hullo, my sleep routine was forever changed! I’m a small, petite individual, so I opted for the smaller sized pillow for my first test run, and has found that this size works perfectly for me. I had no issue, or adjustment period as some reviews mentioned – I wasn’t bothered at all by the light sound of the buckwheat. The Hullo pillow truly cradles my neck. I create a little indent, then nestle in for a fabulous night’s sleep. I’ve tried a memory foam pillow, and botanical latex pillows that are a healthier version supposed to mimic down pillows. My Hullo is by far the most supportive for my neck, out of all pillows I’ve tried.

This felt like such a quality purchase. The packaging was modern, clean, and used an absolute minimum amount of plastic, just shielding the pillow itself. I also love supporting businesses who care about where they source materials from, create clean products for consumers, and who fully produce & operate in the US. I just purchased a Hullo for my mom for her birthday. I’m so happy with my purchase. Thanks Hullo!

Wanted It to Work for Me

I have had chronic neck pain for years and have been on the search for a supportive pillow for my neck and shoulders for about a year now. I put in probably 2 months using this pillow. I used it for about a month and when I continuously was waking up all night and in the morning with neck pain, I thought it was because I needed it to be firmer because throughout the night the hulls would move around so my neck wouldnt be supported. So I bought more hulls from the site. I added a decent amount to make it firm but it I was still waking up in pain. I had to switch to an old pillow actually because it was putting my neck and shoulders in worse pain than before. So I’m still on the search! I really wanted to love this pillow and raved about it before getting it. Even though it didn’t work out for me the quality of this pillow is amazing and would recommend it to a friend who may not have serious neck pain like me. On to the next!

Best Night’s Sleep

When buckwheat pillows came out years ago I had one and I loved it. But, I had to put it in a pillow protector because it was just dirty dust. That was one of the cheap ones, the hulls were not washed. I didn’t know much about these pillows back then. Oh how I hated to put this much money out on new pillows, but I bought one at a time. I would not give up my pillow. I had neck surgery and and the Hullo pillow  gives me support right where I need it. These buckwheat hulls are washed there isn’t anything on the inside of my pillow case. I can’t believe I had that other one. But one of the features that I love about this pillow also is the very good zipper and material that you use on this pillow. I can’t say enough. I’m very pleased and now that I have two I’m even super pleased.

I Love This Pillow

I can not get enough of this pillow! I was interested in getting one after going through a few days of a bad neck cramp (caused by sleeping poorly on a standard pillow.) I instantly fell in love with my Hullo. This pillow is supportive and doesn’t smoosh down over time. It’s even comfy when I am sleeping on my side.

I have already recommended this pillow to two other people who have bought them, and I won’t stop raving about them. Thank you for giving me a great solution to my very cranky neck 🙂

Took a While to Feel Normal

I did not fall in love with my Hullo on day 1, but I really do like it now. I had to remove at least half of the buckwheat hulls that it came with, it was much too full for my needs as a back sleeper (I prefer a relatively thin pillow). I like that it’s very adjustable – I prefer support right under my neck and most pillows don’t provide any so my head falls forward. Hullo is great because you can squish it/shape it just right and then it’s set. My only complaint is that re-adjusting it in the middle of the night can be kind of loud and sometimes wakes up my partner. The sound is similar to shifting around sand in a bag but a bit louder – it’s not unpleasant sounding, just louder than I expected.

Finally!

I have tried so many pillows and I FINALLY found a GREAT one!  I searched for a pillow that would not “sink” when I slept, I tried so many and honestly I was about to give up.  I found Hullo by searching for “firm pillows”, read the description and took a chance.  So glad I did because this pillow is a dream!

I Can Finally Sleep Again

This pillow is amazing. After having kids and now carrying toddlers around all day, my back and neck feel so stiff and sore. I suspect I have arthritis in my upper spine and neck and it causes me so much pain. I used to use the Hullo and I loved it. We recently moved, and my Hullo pillow got packed and misplaced in the move. Since then my pain has been getting increasingly worse, to the point that I have insomnia oftentimes in the middle of the night and it is difficult to fall into a deep sleep. After finding and using this pillow again I can finally fall into a deep sleep and stay asleep. It is so supportive. I recommend bunching the Hullos into a supportive shape under your neck prior to falling asleep. This pillow is a life changer. I highly recommend! Also, I love that it is made in the US, organic and free of any of the toxic materials that are in most bedding.

Closet Full of Unloved Pillows

I have consistently used one  (foam with neck support) pillow since 1995.  The maker of my old pillow is out of business now.  I can not even count all the pillows I have tried until Hullo!

I have the king size Hullo pillow and after a few nights, finally threw out my pillow of 25 years with confidence that I had finally found the perfect fit.   I have had this pillow for three months and love it.

The pillow is heavier than I expected but does not slide around on my bed.   I am a side sleeper and the hulls  allow me to flip from side to side without loss of support.   I sometimes sleep with my arm under my pillow and have no alteration in comfort.  The hulls allow you to customize the height of the pillow under your neck.   They do produce a slight noise but I don’t even notice it anymore.

I wake up less during the night and have had significantly less neck pain.   It is also cooler than others that I have tried.

Thank you Hullo from one very grateful Registered Nurse.

Hello Hullo, Goodbye Neck Pain!

I have had my pillow for about a month now and I am amazed at how much better I feel. My neck pain has reduced drastically since purchasing and my quality of sleep has vastly improved. I have spend hundreds of dollars on pillows and this is really the first one that I have enjoyed owning and have been compelled to review. This is not a plush pillow, this is a support device that helps you achieve a sound night’s sleep. The quality of the Hullo pillow is exceptional. I highly recommend.

Keeps Its Support

Great pillow, very high quality materials throughout. If you need head support without your pillow going flat after a few months this is the pillow for you.

I’m a side sleeper and kept having side neck and shoulder pain so I switched to the Hullo. Definitely better support and has improved my posture while I sleep by preventing my head from craning downward into my shoulder.

Should’ve bought the larger size but I couldn’t justify it for a pillow at the time, which is ironic because of how much we sleep. Will buy the larger size when I can afford to, the smallest size works just fine and will use when traveling.

Good Thickness, Doesn’t Go Flat When You Sleep on It

If you move around a lot in bed, constantly switching sides, then this pillow will tend to get harder. If you lay still for the most part, you shouldn’t have any trouble, but as someone who tosses and turns, the pillow is usually somewhat hard and flat by the time I wake up. That being said, it’s still my favorite pillow.

You’re not paying for cotton, feathers, or foam. You’re paying for a surprisingly comfortable bean bag designed with the head in mind. This is a premium pillow at a less-than-premium price.

So, what are buckwheat hulls? I don’t know, but they are so light in weight, that if you hold some in your hand and blow on them slightly, they will fly out of your hand. The closest thing I can compare them to is the thin, brown, plasticky material you pull out of your teeth after eating popcorn. The pillow, however, is pretty heavy, considering I just ordered the small one. That’s probably because of the shear quantity of material inside. The fabric that houses the hulls is very nice-feeling and relatively thick, too, and the zipper is very robust, so you shouldn’t have to worry about the hulls spilling out.

You can’t really prop up the Hullo to become a headrest to watch TV or use your phone in bed with the small pillow because it likes to abide by the laws of gravity. If you place it upright, it becomes a burrito shape, but if you keep it flat, it stays a pillow shape. I use a different pillow for sitting up. Bottom line: it’s a really good pillow, and a unique one at that. If you don’t like it, you can return it before 60 days.

I used a promo code for free shipping to order the small Hullo pillow. The medium is probably much better, but since the pillow retains its thickness throughout the night, there’s no need for me to upgrade, personally. The main reason why most people think they need a BIG pillow is because they want a thick pillow. As a wise man once said, it’s about the girth, not the length.

Neck Support and Less Snoring

My old pillow was molded with a neck rest. I hadn’t replaced it in years and the neck rest was starting to flatten. In the mornings, my neck ached, so I knew it was time for a new pillow. Around this time, I also started snoring and snorting myself awake because I wasn’t getting enough air. I remembered a pillow from a Japanese ryokan that had felt hard the first night, but I ended up loving after our stay. I failed to find that pillow, but came across Hullo. Wow! I’ve been using it for 3 months. My neck doesn’t hurt in the mornings and my snoring has lessened.

Based on the reviews, I got the smaller pillow. As recommended, I took some of the filling out over subsequent nights until I found the right comfort level for me. It is noisy if you toss and turn a lot, but I’ve found that once it’s in the crater shape I want (lots of hulls in a U shape under the neck), it cradles my head and I don’t move much during the night. I ended up emptying about half the hulls and am not sure what to do with the excess. The pillow material is durable and the tuck away zipper made it easy to adjust the filling while still being secure when closed.

Best So Far

This pillow is pretty much exactly as I expected it to be. It did not take long to get used to it, and after a few days I started taking hulls out, 2 cups at a time, to find what worked for me. This pillow provides good support. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is, I would like to have a little padding around the hulls. I think a pillow with hulls for the core and then a little padding around that would be ideal. I need support for my neck and back but also like a little cush around my head. Other than that, it’s exactly what I wanted.

Excellent Head Support

I’m an extreme slide-sleeper. I only sleep on my back by accident. Hullo took 2-3 weeks to get used to – mainly it was a bit hard on my ear at the beginning but after a few weeks, no more. Clearly the human body is pretty adaptive (although I can’t train myself to sleep on my back). Hullo clearly supports my neck and my head, and is stable enough to keep my shoulder from digging in to the mattress & neck and cause day-long pain. Without Hullo, my shoulder would ALWAYS end up hurting by the morning as it took the brunt of my head’s weight and more. I figure this is because most pillows compress into hard as a rock over night – Buckwheat does not.

The trick is to have a thin bit of Hullo rest between my head and my shoulder, and bam, the pressure is off my shoulder and I feel no pain by the end of the night. My head doesn’t slowly sink. It stays where it needs to. Some buckwheat hulls may migrate elsewhere, but a quick “fluff” puts them back. As a side sleeper, it could use a bit more hulls than what is shipped by default but usually it’s enough. I tried to remove some hulls and that did not work for me. Guess I’m a hard core side sleeper. Anyway, this is so far the best pillow I’ve used and I’ve been through far too many.

This seems like it may be the last type of pillow to try; I’m very happy with it and it’s typically quite comfortable. Off-nights are to be expected, but more often than not, Hullo keeps my neck and shoulder from hurting! Yay!

I would recommend Hullo to a friend.
