Hullo Pillow Reviews

ONLY Pillow for ME!!!

Best pillow ever for me, however, I’m sure it’s not for everyone.  It does take a slight adjustment getting used to it.  I like firm pillows and a truly firm pillow is not easily found these days. This thing is amazing and I’ve been using mine for more than a year.  I haven’t had a kink, crook or pain in my neck once since using it.  In fact, I’ve told my wife, more than once, how great my neck feels.  I can turn my neck completely left or right with absolutely no pain or hesitation.  Almost feels like you do after a good massage.  That being said, my wife is using our second one.  She likes it but isn’t quite in love with it like me.  Thank you Hullo.

Large Zippered Sack, 60% Filled with Black Hulls

The bag/case/pillowcase that the hulls are in should be 60% smaller in order for it to hold the loft, shape and cooling properties of a genuine Japanese Buckwheat pillow. I now need to either manufacture a pillow case with the correct circumference for this pillow or else buy a less expensive but correctly filled and proportioned pillow on another site.

From Hullo: We immediately contacted the customer offering his choice of a full refund, a smaller size pillow, or some extra hulls to fill his pillow. The customer opted for additional hulls to address his concerns.

The Best Pillow You Will Ever Sleep On

I am obsessed with my Hullos. When I am at home, I cannot sleep comfortably unless I have them. I definitely miss them when I traveling, and I am going to purchase a small pillow for traveling. I use them as back support and as a pillow to hug while I am sleeping. I love that they are moldable so I can customize the support of my back and neck.

I have two young children, so by the end of the day my back is aching from bending down and picking babies and toys up all day.  They take some getting used to, and they are more expensive than some pillows, but well worth it.  Plus I love that they are organic and stay very clean/dust-free.

I honestly can’t say enough good things.  Highly recommend!!!

This Pillow is Amazing

I’ve been looking for buckwheat pillows since I left mine in hotel room. This buckwheat pillow is better than the one I had…

You can’t go wrong with this pillow.

Heavy, but Effective

Note, this pillow is not for everyone. First, the bad:

  • HEAVY
  • a little noisy
  • if you like to be fussy about your pillow positioning, this gives you lots of opportunity to be fussy
  • A colleague’s wife had one and returned it because she leaves jewelry in her ear and the Hullo was too firm for such a thing.

Now, the good:

  • Although it doesn’t feel “cool,” I really don’t notice it getting as warm as any previous pillow avoiding that warm pillow feeling. In fact, I don’t recall EVER needing to turn it or reposition it in the night or noticing in the morning that I’ve gotten hot. This is HUGE for me.
  • You really do have infinite positioning capability by shuffling the hulls when your head is on it.

Oh, unexpected bonus. Wife had Hullo over her abdomen when our toddler leapt on her knees-first. Hullo completely absorbed and dissipated the impact.

So, more bad points than good points, but the good points completely overwhelm the bad points for me. In short, it comes down to personal preference. You spend a few extra seconds getting it in the right position when you first bed down, but then you don’t need to move it all night, which is good b/c if you needed to, it’s heavy and noisy.

Good at First

I loved this pillow at first, the noise was nothing and the comfort level was high. It even looked really good, which is not something I normally notice.

However, after a few months, I started developing headaches and neck pain. I took out fill, added fill, and did what I could. It just wasn’t for me. I shift from my side to my back during the night and it’s not easy to readjust the pillow without waking up and doing it. Of course, I was outside the return window but that was my fault.

Highly Recommended

I love my pillow, needed to take some of the fill out to reach my desired firmness, but I preferred too much fill, which was easy to remove, rather than too little. I sleep better with this pillow than any other I’ve found.

My 6 year old daughter has hijacked it for now because she loves its weight on her body as she falls asleep! I am going to need to steal it back!

Flexibility’s the Greatest

When the pillow arrived it was too full to use, so I took out 8 cups and that ended up still a little too full for me so I took out another 8 cups and while that may have been a little too much it works for me. I learned a long time ago that I didn’t really need a pillow until I switched to a waterbed. Then I started using a buckwheat hull pillow  that was not adjustable. Still I found that what I needed was support under my neck. That pillow died and I got the Hullo as a replacement. Now with it as light as it is I can jam the whole thing under my neck and get the support I need. The buckwheat pillow is always cool when the night is it’s hottest and a relief to feel in those conditions.

Washing the pillow (minus the buckwheat) is something I haven’t tried yet though I’m curious to see the results. Being able to change the size to suit my needs is the feature that sold me on the Hullo and I don’t regret it.

Sturdy and Comfortable!

I’ve had my Hullo pillow for a little over 6 months now and I’ve loved it the whole time. I prefer firm pillows when I sleep and, before buying this one, would generally get a pillow, use it for maybe a year, and then get gradually worse sleep as the pillow wore out until I grabbed a new one and started the process over again. Though it hasn’t been a year yet, the Hullo has been as solid as when I first got it and has helped my sleep immensely. I will say if you are considering buying one it definitely takes some getting used to and isn’t for everyone. It’s by far the firmest pillow I’ve used (which was great for me it turns out) and when you lay on it you stay put where you laid your head down. Also the sound of the pillow can take some adjusting too since it is a bag full of hulls; it’s not a loud sound, but it is something to get used to if you shift around at night.

Overall, though, I can’t recommend it enough!

Pressuring Everyone to Get One

Ever since I got this pillow (smallest size), I sleep super well.

It stabilizes my head at a supportive level so that it’s set to stay there for 8 hours as I sleep.

I loved it so much, I considered getting a buckwheat hull bed… and then I did.

I also got my sister one for her birthday and she’s pretty happy with it.

It feels pretty good about sleeping on something that’s made in the USA, doesn’t pollute a ton in its creation, and won’t pollute when I’m done with it.

Win-win all around.

Time Out For Now

I have the Hullo and really, really enjoyed it the first several months. Now I think it’s time for a break with a softer pillow. The height is a little too high for my shoulders and adjusting it each night can become a chore. I’ll definitely revisit it, but have not yet stopped using it.

Are You Freaking Kidding Me?

This pillow is amazing. If you have any neck problems I highly recommend it. It takes a day to get used to the noise, but completely worth it.

Best Pillow…

The Hullo is the best pillow I have ever had.  Waking at night and in the morning with a sore neck and shoulders gets old real fast. I let a bit of hulls out for a softer pillow and it has been perfect!

Anyone Want Mine?

It’s basically a bag of beans. It may keep temperature a bit cooler, but not very comfortable.

My wife & I both tried it over the course of 7 months. But now its in the closet waiting for the next garage sale. Most recently I used it for a gun rest to get sighted in for deer season. Worked great, but a pretty expensive gun rest.

You Had Me at Hullo

I have tried several different types of pillows in my lifetime because of various orthopedic problems and desperation for non narcotic pain and insomnia relief you name it i’ve probably tried it and as a child in the mid 90’s my occupational therapy suggested to my parents i try a buckwheat pillow and it was great no more insomnia no more pain etc.etc. the problem was as the years went by the hulls eventually as they do broke down/flatten etc and there was no way to replace the hulls the casing had no zipper so unfortunately and regrettably at the time we threw it away thinking we’ll just order a new one from the therapy catalogue we had no computers back then let alone a way to online shop come to find out the company we got the first one from went out of business so i reverted back to my foam pillow and various feather cotton and so on  fast forward to about 20 years later about a year ago i started having severe episodes of insomnia and pain again remembering the comfort and relief i had with my good ol’ buckwheat pillow and this being the 21st century i decided to see if i could buy one online and bingo came across an asian company that sells king size for about 40 bucks a piece vs hullo’s price and i thinking buckwheat pillows are all the same and could save a few bucks went with the cheaper brand BIG mistake the case was so thin and stitching weak but worst off was the pesticide fumes it gave off which gave me migraines every time i slept on it because it had to be fumigated prior to being imported to the u.s.a long story short you get what you pay for and if you want a high quality if not the highest quality buckwheat pillow made in the U.S.A get a hullo

say hello to hullo then goodnight lol

p.s. i just wish a few things like the prices could be just a little lower without lowering quality or you had the choice between buckwheat or millet hulls and you could buy just the case as a spare incase something happens to the other like if it ever needs to be washed etc

Honest, Quality Company Making an Amazing, Quality Pillow

Ordering was easy and the company is up-front, honest, and helpful. The pillow is high quality and very comfortable. You will sleep well for two reasons: The pillow supports your neck like no other pillow. It keeps you cool, and unlike so many other pillows that have toxins and a toxic smell, this pillow is safe, which is the second reason you’ll sleep well. You’ll know that what your face is touching and what you’re breathing night after night for years to come is safe and not toxic to you or your family or pets. These are the only pillows anyone should ever buy.

No Free Shipping on Returns

This pillow is firm. Really firm. Be warned, if you return the pillow, there’s no free shipping. You have to pay for shipping and the pillow is very heavy. It’s like shipping a really large bag of flour.

Great Company, Great Product!

I’ve had terrible neck pain for about 20 years.  I recently heard about the buckwheat pillow and was lucky to be able to try one at a high end hotel.  I really liked it so I bought the cheapest “travel size” I could find thinking I could also travel with it. Mistake.  Really uncomfortable.

I did a bunch of online research and liked the way Hullo presented so I ordered their standard size pillow.

Wow!  I slept great.  About a week or two later it seemed like the hulls were compressing a little too much and I needed more buckwheat hulls.  I emailed Hullo and asked to order more hulls.  They sent them to me FREE!  For many months now, my neck pain is just gone.  I will never sleep on another type of pillow again.

The pillow seems like it needs a few more hulls again so I’m buying some more.  I guess I really like it thick for side sleeping.  I always used to sleep on my arms and my pillow. Now my arms fall asleep so it’s better to have just the pillow and leave my arms by my side.

Love the support!  Love the company.

A Great Pillow

I was a bit skeptical the first night but once I dialed it in, I’m a believer.  It took about 2 weeks of taking some out, adding some back in that I got the pillow exactly where I prefer.

I’m a side sleeper and love the support my neck and head get.  The support lasts all morning and I don’t have to keep flipping or fluffing the pillow.  The firmness does take some getting used to but I sleep with earrings in and it doesn’t bother me.

The “noise” hasn’t been a factor for me or my spouse–its just a quiet rustle as I settle into the pillow.

I love how cool it stays!

It is a little bit harder to sit propped up in bed, leaning against the headboard than a traditional pillow.  Overall a great trade for a great nights sleep.

Really Supportive

Hullo is really supportive, I use it under my regular pillow. It holds its shape well. Heavy, a little noisy but it does work well if you take your time to get used to it.

Recovering Feather-Pillow-Addict Says YES

As far back as I can remember using a pillow at night, I’ve used a feather pillow. Pillows stuffed with the softest down have been my default, my go to. I haughtily looked down on pillows of any other type. This was even though I’d been growing more dissatisfied with my feather pillow’s tendency to wake me in the middle of the night because it’s lofty support had degraded and squished away through after a few hours.

Well, then I heard some ad-reads for the Hullo Pillow on The Talk Show podcast. I decided to give a buckwheat pillow a try. It seemed relatively risk-free.

The first week was difficult. I was so used to the soft, plushness of feather pillows: the buckwheat pillow felt like a slab of concrete in comparison.

But, then the second week hit. By then, my muscles were well adjusted. The pillow start to feel supportive rather than hard. I was a convert! This pillow is great.

This pillow excels at all-night-long support and good breathability. Unlike my feather pillows of the past, this pillow works with/for me, rather than against me.

What a fantastic pillow!

Absolutely YES!

Had been through a number of regular pillows and all gave me neck and upper back pains. Hubby got a hullo for me and I’ve had some of the best sleep (in years) since using it. No more pain in the morning. This one is a keeper (just like hubby!).

You owe it to yourself to try one.
