Hullo Pillow Reviews

No More Neck Pain

It took approximately one week to decide that I will never sleep on any other pillow.  I have degenerative disc disease, whiplash, arthritis and other diagnosis that I cannot spell. Sleeping on the hullo pillow has given me pain free days. The pillow is expensive but I would do without food to have the relief it has provided.

This is a sincere testimony from a chronic neck pain sufferer. I wish everyone with neck and shoulder pain had the opportunity to see if this pillow would help them.

I would recommend Hullo to a friend.

I Like It!

Took a week or so, ended up taking out about 3 cups of hulls to get the optimal size/shape for my side sleeping comfort zone (there are still plenty in there). Now it’s very easy to get comfortable on, and only needs an occasional push or poke if I change position.

I would recommend Hullo to a friend.

Didn’t Realize How Much I’d Love This Pillow

I honestly wasn’t even looking for a new pillow when I stumbled across the Hullo.

However, I had been sleeping on a memory foam mattress and pillow and had been consistently waking up with a sore back. I thought that the mattress was the source of the problem but after reading some of the reviews for the Hullo, I figured it would be easier to try a new pillow as opposed to a mattress.

After just a couple of days, I noticed that my back pain in the morning was pretty much gone and has remained that way for the several months that I have been using the new pillow.

Even though it feels strange to be so enthusiastic about a pillow, I have found myself bringing it downstairs to show it to several people and have raved about how great it is.

I know some people mention that they have an issue with the noise the buckwheat makes, but this has never been a concern for me. In fact, after you get used to it, I think it is somewhat soothing.

Great Return Policy!

Imagine being on a beach, and building up a little pile of sand, and then putting a towel over it and laying down on it. You can smush your head into it and it’ll form a perfectly comfortable spot to lay, but if you want to move, you have to do the whole thing over again.

That’s what a hullo is like. It’s dense and much heavier than a normal pillow, which is fine, but you have to adjust it to get comfortable with it. I do find it to be a comfortable pillow, but if every time I get up to use the bathroom, change position or roll over, I need to fluff a noisy bag o’ buckwheat, I’d rather just use a normal pillow.

I returned the hullo months ago, and just got an email today asking for a review. That’s either poor programming by hullo, or a great and honest company who even wants the people who don’t enjoy their product to write reviews.

Terrific customer service. Meh pillow.

I Had High Hopes

I sleep on my side and commonly wake up with arms numb and tingly. I tried the hullo and after a few months I have seen no difference from normal pillows.  The hullo is very heavy and I commonly wake up with a sore neck.

Uncomfortable, unforgiving and not enough trial time

I was interested in hullo due to its breathability and natural materials but after months of poor sleep and trial and error with fill levels and position I gave up on it. After the first nights sleep back on my tried and true pillow I never went back and now hullo can be an “experience” for house guests.

I wanted to give this pillow a try, but with only a 60 day return window and an arduous return process, this was nothing but an expensive mistake.

New Level of Comfort & Sleep

To be honest, when I first got the pillow, I thought it was weird and didn’t see what all the fuss was about. It took a week or two, but sure enough Hullo became the only pillow I enjoy sleeping on.

I sleep on both my side and back and I always used two soft pillows, often folding one of them in an attempt to get the support to hold my head and neck in the right position. With Hullo, I form the pillow to the perfect shape and thickness and it holds my head in the right position all night long.  If I roll over or readjust in the night, its easy to shift the fill with my hands to adapt do different sleeping positions.

Now, floppy soft pillows just seem woefully inadequate and I sleep on Hullo every night. I even take it with me when I travel, because no other pillow comes close. Highly recommended!

Really wanted to like this pillow!

As a public health professional, I’m striving to have the most natural (non-toxic) bedding possible, so was super excited to order and receive the hullo pillow. After the first night, woke up with noticeably sore neck. Adjusted the pillow by taking some filling out. After second night, same thing. Took more filling out. Started having not only a neck so sore I could barely turn it, but also tingling in my wrists and hands. Instead of getting better, just got worse. My partner tried it and also found it disappointingly less comfortable than our existing pillows, even after a week or two of experimenting with it. We unfortunately lost some precious sleep and didn’t see any upward trends in the weeks we tried it. I’m so glad it works well for some people! Did not for us.

No More Pain

I used to have neck pain when I woke up in the morning. So annoying! But I’ve been using the Hullo for several months now, and I love it. With a flick of my hand, I can adjust how much filling is under my head; I push the buckwheat to be flatter or make a raised area under my neck. I had tried SO many kinds of pillows and none of them stopped the pain until I tried this. I don’t think it’s noisy at all–never bothered me one bit. (My spouse says he never hears it either.)

Noisy

I must preface this review by stating that I am a side and stomach sleeper and I toss and turn a lot throughout the night.

Moving around and adjusting the hullo pillow is very noisy and can be quite a disruption in a quiet room.

Also, I’ve not been able to sleep on my stomach with this pillow as it is just too uncomfortable. I tried removing some material to make it a little thinner, but then it was uncomfortable on my sides and back.

I wanted to love this pillow so much, but I consistently find myself pushing it aside and grabbing a conventional pillow instead.

The craftsmanship is great and I would absolutely give it a try for yourself though! Their return policy seems very favorable.

In Love!

For 19 years I used a small buckwheat hull pillow called “Bucky”. This past spring, my Bucky finally fell apart and I found it is no longer manufactured. I started to panic because I can never sleep on any other kind of pillow and always brought Bucky along when I traveled. To my immense relief, I found Hullo and it is every bit as good as Bucky was! I sleep in all four positions during the night and with a slight shove, Hullo adjusts perfectly to cradle my neck no matter where I am.

Thank you!

Love My Pih-dough

When my son was just learning to talk he loved his pillow. He didn’t have a special blanket, he had a special pillow which he called his pih-dough. It was cute then. But now, twenty years later I find I have a special pih-dough. I have tried many different kinds of pillows such as memory foam, down, special shapes and curves promising comfort and relief. None really worked for me.

Then I read about the Hullo Pillow on a trusted website. I felt I had nothing to lose in view of the generous trial period. I liked the pillow right away. But in the weeks I have been using it, I have learned how to shape it just right for great sleeping. No more neck aches. Lots of support. Cool comfort. Now I have a special pih-dough–I love it.

Thanks.

Good for Sleeping on Your Side

I mostly am a side-sleeper. My Hullo pillow is just the thing I need.

I took out some of the hulls so the normal height was just right for me, or a bit high. Then a very slight adjustment gets me to perfect.

Incredible, It Actually has Kept My Head cool at Night

When I heard about Hullo and the claim about it allowing air to flow through it, I thought I’d give it a try.

I got this as a father’s day present from my wife and kids. Ever since I got it (it’s August now) I can’t recall having a single night where I was feeling hot and sweaty on my head. This alone has made Hullo be the best pillow I’ve ever owned.

Asides keeping my head cool at night, the fact that allows me to make it conform to the shape of my head/face is a huge bonus. I sleep on my side, and I can now be comfortable without feeling like I am drowning in a too-soft pillow, or having my head at a weird angle because the pillow is too tall or hard. If laying on my back, I can have more of the fill support my neck… there’s always a way to make it fit whatever position your head is on it.

The pillow is quite heavy, but that has turned out to be a good thing: It stays where you want it to stay.

The noise it makes from the hulls shifting around is not bad: my wife says she’s never heard it or bothered her at night. And if she’s happy with it, it’s a keeper.

I didn’t have to mess with the amount of fill… I’m using it as it arrived, since after a couple nights of use I realized how I could move the hulls around.

I added another zipper cover and my usual pillow cover and have loved it ever since I got it.

If pillows are a pain in the neck for you, I would say you should at least give it a try. Chances are this is the pillow for you. You’ve got nothing to lose.

True Relief from Headaches!

I have suffered from years of tension headaches and restless sleep. My chiropractor said that with my overly tense neck muscles it was pertinent to get a new pillow. I tried the temperpedic pillows for a while which only exacerbated my symptoms. My neck was still too small to use these pillows. It wasn’t until I came across Hullo pillows that I’ve experienced relief!!! It was odd at first to get used to sleeping on a buckwheat hull pillow but it truly does what it says it does! Provides support all through the night, even when I want to change sleeping positions. The hulls can make noise as I move positions but it has never bothered me or my husband.

I take this pillow with me everywhere now when I travel and truly believe it’s made a big impact on the amount of headaches I experience. I would recommend this to anyone who’s struggled to find the right pillow. Give it a try, it can make all the difference.

Love My Hullo

Took a while to get used to the noise, and some fine tuning on the amount of fill, but my Hullo pillow is now my guarantee of a good sleep with no stiff neck or shoulders in the morning. I’m a back sleeper and Hullo lets me have neck/cervical support while still letting my head rest just slightly to the side to prevent snoring.

I bought the small size which sideways in a standard pillow case that I then fold in half. To adjust the softness I took out enough hulls that I filled a little pillow that works great as a lap pillow to prop my Kindle or iPad on when I read.

Not for Me but Made it Work

The feel of the Hullo at the start of the night was great, but I’m a restless sleeper, and movement would shift the hulls around during the night so I had to constantly rearrange the fill, which didn’t help me get back to sleep. I also would wake up with pain in the ear and the side of my head that was on the pillow, so it’s not soft enough for me. However, I distributed the hulls into a couple of zippered travel/neck pillow cases, so now I use those as bolsters for stretching and helping with waking positions.

Better Sleep

I was waking up multiple times a night, having a hard time getting to sleep in the hot summer months, and had very sore shoulders. My wife and I bought a new mattress and Hullo pillows the same week. It took me five or six nights to get used to new pillow, but once I did, it made a huge difference. My neck and shoulders stopped aching. I started falling asleep faster because my head was not getting hot (these dissipate heat very well). And I started sleeping through the night, though that probably has as much to do with the new mattress as the the pillow.

Hullo Review

After doing some research and advice from friends, I decided to purchase the Hullo pillows. It took a little not to get used to, adjusting the amount of filler, and still can’t get it right for a sound sleep. I still wake up with tingling in my arms. Unfortunately It is past the return requirements so I am still trying to make it work. Many of my friends love it but me, not so much.

Neck Saver

I’m a toss and turner. Before the Hullo I would wake up with a sore neck from a the pillow being too soft and flat or too tall and firm. With Hullo I can adjust it to find that comfort sweet spot. If it’s not right I’ll wake up and either flatten the pillow or “fluff” it up. I now toss and turn less and wake up feeling better.  And I love not needing to turn the pillow over to the cool side.

One side benefit I found. My kids and I like to have pillow fights. Which are not so good for keeping your pillows in shape. The Hullo doesn’t participate in the pillow fights, not because I don’t want to ruin my favorite and valuable pillow, it’s because the kids (their little) say it’s too heavy!

I’m Asleep, My Limbs Are Not

I’m a side sleeper, and my arm and shoulder would lose circulation and get the familiar “pins and needles” feeling. No more with the Hullo pillow.

As others have mentioned, it is loud when you move it around, but once you settle in it is fine. It seems to dissipate heat well too.

I’m a Convert!

I love the substance of it – it’s thick, heavy and I know it’s not going to move around a lot when I’m asleep. When I wake up, it’s where I left it. Took a little getting used to, but I’ve tried a lot of pillows and this is what I’m going to keep.

No More Neck Pain

This is the first pillow I’ve found that gives nice firm support to my neck. I used to have a sore neck throughout the day from poor position/support the night before, but ever since I started using this pillow, my routine pain has pretty much completely gone away. I’m kind of shocked myself at how big a difference it’s made, and surprised to find myself writing one of those seemingly overenthusiastic reviews, but Hullo deserves it. So worth it—the ability to precisely shape the pillow so that it supports my neck just right is something I’ll never want to give up!
