Really Supportive
Hullo is really supportive, I use it under my regular pillow. It holds its shape well. Heavy, a little noisy but it does work well if you take your time to get used to it.

Hullo pillows make a gentle rustling sound when moved, which most people quickly adapt to. Some even find the sound soothing and pleasant. The Hullo pillow generally makes the most noise when it is brand new – over the first few weeks and months, the hulls become broken in and are much quieter.

It took me a while to get used to the crunching, but I love it now. It really helps with neck and shoulder pain. Great investment for good sleep.

I was initially skeptical of the sound/texture of the pillow but it’s now my favorite pillow I’ve ever had.

I don’t usually write reviews, but am making an exception for this product. I heard about the Hullo pillows on a podcast and thought my wife and I could give them a try since they have a very generous 60 day return policy.
Neither of us loved them immediately. I liked it but they do seem noisy at first and they are so different from any pillow I had every used before.
My wife was harder to win over and, even though we are in our 50s, she was now on the hunt for the perfect pillow. She did research, bought pillows online, bought pillows in stores, tried them out and ended up returning all of them. None of them were better than the Hullo pillow!
We both love them now, have less neck pain, sleep comfortably and don’t notice the noise anymore (they either got quieter or we adjusted to the noise).
Anyway, we are both very happy with them and would highly recommend them.

I have been sleeping on my Hullo for about 3 months now and absolutely love it! First Impressions: Well made, different, and hard. I started out using my Hullo thinking this pillow may not be for me. However, I had a sore neck issue that wasn’t going away which is why I searched for, found and purchased my Hullo in the first place. Anyway, I stuck with it through the first couple weeks of getting use to the noise (which I don’t notice at all now and my wife never has) and learning what shape works best for me. I am a side sleeper and I find that if I fluff the pillow and then smash the middle down it gives my neck perfect support. Once it’s the shape I prefer, it stays that way for most of the night with the need for me to tweak it once or twice throughout the night.
I have spent thousands on every type of pillow out there and I am so grateful that I found Hullo and I love my buckwheat pillow! Thank you!

I honestly wasn’t even looking for a new pillow when I stumbled across the Hullo.
However, I had been sleeping on a memory foam mattress and pillow and had been consistently waking up with a sore back. I thought that the mattress was the source of the problem but after reading some of the reviews for the Hullo, I figured it would be easier to try a new pillow as opposed to a mattress.
After just a couple of days, I noticed that my back pain in the morning was pretty much gone and has remained that way for the several months that I have been using the new pillow.
Even though it feels strange to be so enthusiastic about a pillow, I have found myself bringing it downstairs to show it to several people and have raved about how great it is.
I know some people mention that they have an issue with the noise the buckwheat makes, but this has never been a concern for me. In fact, after you get used to it, I think it is somewhat soothing.

I used to have neck pain when I woke up in the morning. So annoying! But I’ve been using the Hullo for several months now, and I love it. With a flick of my hand, I can adjust how much filling is under my head; I push the buckwheat to be flatter or make a raised area under my neck. I had tried SO many kinds of pillows and none of them stopped the pain until I tried this. I don’t think it’s noisy at all–never bothered me one bit. (My spouse says he never hears it either.)

I must preface this review by stating that I am a side and stomach sleeper and I toss and turn a lot throughout the night.
Moving around and adjusting the hullo pillow is very noisy and can be quite a disruption in a quiet room.
Also, I’ve not been able to sleep on my stomach with this pillow as it is just too uncomfortable. I tried removing some material to make it a little thinner, but then it was uncomfortable on my sides and back.
I wanted to love this pillow so much, but I consistently find myself pushing it aside and grabbing a conventional pillow instead.
The craftsmanship is great and I would absolutely give it a try for yourself though! Their return policy seems very favorable.

When I heard about Hullo and the claim about it allowing air to flow through it, I thought I’d give it a try.
I got this as a father’s day present from my wife and kids. Ever since I got it (it’s August now) I can’t recall having a single night where I was feeling hot and sweaty on my head. This alone has made Hullo be the best pillow I’ve ever owned.
Asides keeping my head cool at night, the fact that allows me to make it conform to the shape of my head/face is a huge bonus. I sleep on my side, and I can now be comfortable without feeling like I am drowning in a too-soft pillow, or having my head at a weird angle because the pillow is too tall or hard. If laying on my back, I can have more of the fill support my neck… there’s always a way to make it fit whatever position your head is on it.
The pillow is quite heavy, but that has turned out to be a good thing: It stays where you want it to stay.
The noise it makes from the hulls shifting around is not bad: my wife says she’s never heard it or bothered her at night. And if she’s happy with it, it’s a keeper.
I didn’t have to mess with the amount of fill… I’m using it as it arrived, since after a couple nights of use I realized how I could move the hulls around.
I added another zipper cover and my usual pillow cover and have loved it ever since I got it.
If pillows are a pain in the neck for you, I would say you should at least give it a try. Chances are this is the pillow for you. You’ve got nothing to lose.

I have suffered from years of tension headaches and restless sleep. My chiropractor said that with my overly tense neck muscles it was pertinent to get a new pillow. I tried the temperpedic pillows for a while which only exacerbated my symptoms. My neck was still too small to use these pillows. It wasn’t until I came across Hullo pillows that I’ve experienced relief!!! It was odd at first to get used to sleeping on a buckwheat hull pillow but it truly does what it says it does! Provides support all through the night, even when I want to change sleeping positions. The hulls can make noise as I move positions but it has never bothered me or my husband.
I take this pillow with me everywhere now when I travel and truly believe it’s made a big impact on the amount of headaches I experience. I would recommend this to anyone who’s struggled to find the right pillow. Give it a try, it can make all the difference.

Took a while to get used to the noise, and some fine tuning on the amount of fill, but my Hullo pillow is now my guarantee of a good sleep with no stiff neck or shoulders in the morning. I’m a back sleeper and Hullo lets me have neck/cervical support while still letting my head rest just slightly to the side to prevent snoring.
I bought the small size which sideways in a standard pillow case that I then fold in half. To adjust the softness I took out enough hulls that I filled a little pillow that works great as a lap pillow to prop my Kindle or iPad on when I read.

I’m a side sleeper, and my arm and shoulder would lose circulation and get the familiar “pins and needles” feeling. No more with the Hullo pillow.
As others have mentioned, it is loud when you move it around, but once you settle in it is fine. It seems to dissipate heat well too.

The Hullo is a really great pillow especially for someone like me who sleeps on their side. It supports my head and neck throughout the night.
Stability … Once you get this pillow in the right position, it stays in that position most of the night … no need to reposition it periodically.
Heat … This pillow dissipates heat really nicely. It remains at a comfortable temperature all night.
Noise … The deal is that you do hear it right at first, but once you settle in, the pillow is silent. My first night, I tried the pillow for a minute and decided I would return it because of the noise. I gave it a second chance (and a little more time) on night two. Once I settled in, the pillow was silent. At this point, I don’t hear the noise at all.
Weight … this sucker is a little heavy, so don’t plan on traveling with it. I’m going to be taking a two week trip this month, and I’m really bummed that my Hullo pillow will not be coming with me.

I agree that the Hullo does stay cooler than normal pillows, which is nice. It’s particularly important as this means it doesn’t require flipping, and you basically can’t flip it. At least not easily while laying down.
My problem was that even after a few weeks sleeping on it it still constantly woke me up because of how loud it is. It isn’t so loud as to wake up the person next to you, but your ears are right up on it, and while I assumed I’d eventually “get used to it”, even after a few weeks I still wasn’t sleeping well on it. I’d have returned it, but it’s really quite heavy, and I suspect the shipping cost would have made it not worth it.
It does seem well made, and I like the product in theory. I doubt most people will find it too loud, but I did. I’ve just been using it when I lay on the couch.
I learned about the Hullo from an ad they placed on Loop Insight. Usually I don’t go for product placements, but in this case, I’m glad I did.
The Hullo has dramatically improved the way I sleep. I love that it can be shaped to fit my neck and sleeping posture.
The sound of the hulls hasn’t bothered me or my wife. To be honest, I’m not sure who would be annoyed by this, but it’s certainly not an issue for us.
I’m thinking about ordering them as holiday gifts for my parents and co-workers; the only thing keeping me from doing it is the cost of shipping to Hawaii.

I have tried down, memory foam, and synthetic down pillows, but none compare to my Hullo. I sleep on my side and back and I love how this will confirm but still be supportive. You adjust the firmness desired. I also appreciate that is does not get hot causing sweaty neck as I had with memory foam pillow and yet it stays supportive unlike my down pillows. I get the best sleep.
You do need to get used to the noise of shells moving but now I do not notice and my husband never noticed. There is no funny smell like the memory foam pillow.
Being able to take shells out of case and air out in a box when I wash the cases is nice and eco friendly.
Thank you

I like the quality of sleep that I’m getting, the firmness, the smell and the sound.

Prior to Hullo, I would routinely wake up with a sore lower back, despite sleeping on a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Ever since Hullo joined my sleep team this soreness has been absent!
I’ve named my Hullo, “Husky” on account of its contents, and my stature.
With Hullo I am much less restless in my sleep, however i still toss and turn to some degree, and Hullo is a bit noisy.
Can be cumbersome to put a pillow case on, all of the husks bulge at one end when Hullo is picked up and tipped side ways. Perhaps your best scientists can create some kind of special pillow case that doesn’t require you to pick up the Hullo. Like a diaper the pillow can be rolled onto, and then the diaper fasted with some device (buttons, zipper, ties, clips, clamps, velcro, badger teeth etc).
