46 Reviews Mentioning: weight

At around 10 pounds for a standard-sized pillow, Hullo pillows are heavy pillows. While it initially may be odd and surprising to those used to light spongy pillows, many come to love heavy pillows. Below you can read reviews from Hullo customers who mention the weight of the pillow.

Best Pillow

I LOVE my Hullo.  I have tried many many pillows and this is the best.  You are able to unzip and remove contents of the pillow if you need to make it more comfortable, so this is a one size fits all.  It is very heavy.  Some hotels with a pillow menu are offering buckwheat pillows, but Hullo is by far the best of the buckwheat pillows.  Try it!!!

Best Pillow Ever!

This pillow gives such wonderful support for my head and neck! I absolutely love it. It is a heavy, weighty pillow that confirms to the head position, and it’s just what I need! It maintains its shape. Thank you, Hullo, for producing a wonderful product.

Fabulous Pillow

ADJUSTABILITY I purchased the standard size. Thanks to the instructions, I removed several cups of the filling to make it the perfect thickness for me. The pillow can be molded in so many ways. If you’re a side sleeper, it’s easy to make a little hollow for your ear. No more pressure points causing pain to my ear. It stays in place. It’s going to be heavier than a pillow you may be used to, but that actually turned out to be fine. One note. It is a little noisy as you adjust it, but once done, sleeping is great.

COOL! This pillow sleeps cool even in the summer. My head never feels hot. Nor does it feel cool in the winter. Just right.

RESPONSIBILITY! I was happy to support this small business. Organic natural products are important to me. And free shipping and money back guarantee was a bonus.

I’ve used the pillow for several months and will never go back to other pillows.

Best Pillow Ever!

At first, I thought I made a mistake because the pillow was so heavy. But from the first night up to now, I have no neck pain, and most important, I get a great night’s rest. I may have to flip my pillow over once through out the night because I get a little warm but not every night like use to in the past. I’m so happy I brought this pillow.

Not for Everyone

And not for me. A bit loud an coarse, extremely heavy. I kept removing more and more material until it finally worked after 3/4 of original fill was removed. But it does not fold over well, and the loudness of response when rolling head back and forth proved too much, and I finally emptied it onto the garden compost. Back to simple small feather pillow – better for me.

The Most Comfortable Pillow

So happy with this purchase! My husband and I were not happy with our memory foam pillows, and I saw Hullo on facebook and was intrigued. When you receive the pillows, they seem strangely heavy and firm. However, it is by far the most comfortable pillow that I’ve ever slept on!

Heavy, but Effective

Note, this pillow is not for everyone. First, the bad:

  • HEAVY
  • a little noisy
  • if you like to be fussy about your pillow positioning, this gives you lots of opportunity to be fussy
  • A colleague’s wife had one and returned it because she leaves jewelry in her ear and the Hullo was too firm for such a thing.

Now, the good:

  • Although it doesn’t feel “cool,” I really don’t notice it getting as warm as any previous pillow avoiding that warm pillow feeling. In fact, I don’t recall EVER needing to turn it or reposition it in the night or noticing in the morning that I’ve gotten hot. This is HUGE for me.
  • You really do have infinite positioning capability by shuffling the hulls when your head is on it.

Oh, unexpected bonus. Wife had Hullo over her abdomen when our toddler leapt on her knees-first. Hullo completely absorbed and dissipated the impact.

So, more bad points than good points, but the good points completely overwhelm the bad points for me. In short, it comes down to personal preference. You spend a few extra seconds getting it in the right position when you first bed down, but then you don’t need to move it all night, which is good b/c if you needed to, it’s heavy and noisy.

Highly Recommended

I love my pillow, needed to take some of the fill out to reach my desired firmness, but I preferred too much fill, which was easy to remove, rather than too little. I sleep better with this pillow than any other I’ve found.

My 6 year old daughter has hijacked it for now because she loves its weight on her body as she falls asleep! I am going to need to steal it back!

Really Supportive

Hullo is really supportive, I use it under my regular pillow. It holds its shape well. Heavy, a little noisy but it does work well if you take your time to get used to it.

Hulla-luya!

I had slept on buckwheat hulled pillows in Japan, liked them but they are traditionally smaller than US bed pillows so thought I’d try the Hullos.  I love the pillows, despite little buckwheat seeds(?) falling through the fabric even when the case it tightly zipped.  I had a neck injury from a car accident years ago and regular pillows don’t give me the support I need.  The buckwheats do.  The only real criticism is that they weigh a ton!  Don’t use them for pillow fights, they would do serious damage (can’t image anyone actually doing this). Don’t think Hullo could fix this but it would be a definite benefit.

Great Return Policy!

Imagine being on a beach, and building up a little pile of sand, and then putting a towel over it and laying down on it. You can smush your head into it and it’ll form a perfectly comfortable spot to lay, but if you want to move, you have to do the whole thing over again.

That’s what a hullo is like. It’s dense and much heavier than a normal pillow, which is fine, but you have to adjust it to get comfortable with it. I do find it to be a comfortable pillow, but if every time I get up to use the bathroom, change position or roll over, I need to fluff a noisy bag o’ buckwheat, I’d rather just use a normal pillow.

I returned the hullo months ago, and just got an email today asking for a review. That’s either poor programming by hullo, or a great and honest company who even wants the people who don’t enjoy their product to write reviews.

Terrific customer service. Meh pillow.

I Had High Hopes

I sleep on my side and commonly wake up with arms numb and tingly. I tried the hullo and after a few months I have seen no difference from normal pillows.  The hullo is very heavy and I commonly wake up with a sore neck.

Incredible, It Actually has Kept My Head cool at Night

When I heard about Hullo and the claim about it allowing air to flow through it, I thought I’d give it a try.

I got this as a father’s day present from my wife and kids. Ever since I got it (it’s August now) I can’t recall having a single night where I was feeling hot and sweaty on my head. This alone has made Hullo be the best pillow I’ve ever owned.

Asides keeping my head cool at night, the fact that allows me to make it conform to the shape of my head/face is a huge bonus. I sleep on my side, and I can now be comfortable without feeling like I am drowning in a too-soft pillow, or having my head at a weird angle because the pillow is too tall or hard. If laying on my back, I can have more of the fill support my neck… there’s always a way to make it fit whatever position your head is on it.

The pillow is quite heavy, but that has turned out to be a good thing: It stays where you want it to stay.

The noise it makes from the hulls shifting around is not bad: my wife says she’s never heard it or bothered her at night. And if she’s happy with it, it’s a keeper.

I didn’t have to mess with the amount of fill… I’m using it as it arrived, since after a couple nights of use I realized how I could move the hulls around.

I added another zipper cover and my usual pillow cover and have loved it ever since I got it.

If pillows are a pain in the neck for you, I would say you should at least give it a try. Chances are this is the pillow for you. You’ve got nothing to lose.

Neck Saver

I’m a toss and turner. Before the Hullo I would wake up with a sore neck from a the pillow being too soft and flat or too tall and firm. With Hullo I can adjust it to find that comfort sweet spot. If it’s not right I’ll wake up and either flatten the pillow or “fluff” it up. I now toss and turn less and wake up feeling better.  And I love not needing to turn the pillow over to the cool side.

One side benefit I found. My kids and I like to have pillow fights. Which are not so good for keeping your pillows in shape. The Hullo doesn’t participate in the pillow fights, not because I don’t want to ruin my favorite and valuable pillow, it’s because the kids (their little) say it’s too heavy!

I’m a Convert!

I love the substance of it – it’s thick, heavy and I know it’s not going to move around a lot when I’m asleep. When I wake up, it’s where I left it. Took a little getting used to, but I’ve tried a lot of pillows and this is what I’m going to keep.

Great for Side Sleepers

The Hullo is a really great pillow especially for someone like me who sleeps on their side. It supports my head and neck throughout the night.

Stability … Once you get this pillow in the right position, it stays in that position most of the night … no need to reposition it periodically.

Heat … This pillow dissipates heat really nicely. It remains at a comfortable temperature all night.

Noise … The deal is that you do hear it right at first, but once you settle in, the pillow is silent. My first night, I tried the pillow for a minute and decided I would return it because of the noise. I gave it a second chance (and a little more time) on night two. Once I settled in, the pillow was silent. At this point, I don’t hear the noise at all.

Weight … this sucker is a little heavy, so don’t plan on traveling with it. I’m going to be taking a two week trip this month, and I’m really bummed that my Hullo pillow will not be coming with me.

Fantastic Product – Hooked for Life!

This is my second buckwheat pillow. It is larger and of noticably higher quality than my first pillow, which I bought from beans72.

If you’ve never used a buckwheat pillow before, it is different from foam and feather pillows. It is heavier and more “shape-able”, for lack of a better term.

I am a side sleeper and before getting a buckwheat pillow, I always used two pillows and/or folded my pillows in an attempt to support my head properly. I can quickly shape Hullo with my hands and find a comfortable sleeping position. Before the buckwheat pillow I would wake up with a numb arm, or sometimes a sore neck. This doesn’t happen with Hullo.

Now I take my Hullo wherever I go, because soft foam and feather pillows aren’t as comfortable. I highly recommend trying this pillow.

My First Buckwheat Pillow

Firmness. Support. Weight. Cooling. These are reasons why I like Hullo. It can be improved by adding a thicker cover that dampens noise.

American-Made Quality

I have owed a buckwheat hull pillow for a decade or so, it was just time to replace. My last pillow was purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, to discover they NO longer sale B-hull bed pillows. Searching the web yielded little results for sales in America, by Americans.

I liked how Hullo included the net weight of buckwheat hulls of 10lbs. (other sites were vague). Hullo has a flat cost which gave me a local feel (not burdening me with other cost). There seems to be an American country farm feel to the site with it’s simplicity, feeling as if I am being patriotic just for making a purchase. Felt so good, I had to buy others. LOL!

Shipped quick! You know it comes from your farm lands.

I love the weight of it. I love that I can shape the pillow to give myself more or less support. I just love it.
